San Diego Whale Watching Tours

Whale Watching Returns December 2025

Thank you for another unforgettable whale watching season! Our annual tours have come to a close, but the whales will be back—and so will we—this December 2025.

Each year, more than 20,000 gray whales migrate along the San Diego coast, making our region one of the top destinations in the world for whale watching. When the season returns, you’ll have the chance to cruise alongside these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat with San Diego’s most experienced whale watching fleet.

Flagship Cruises & Events has been part of this incredible journey since 1955, when we launched the world’s first whale watching tour right here in San Diego. Our expert guides provide live narration, sharing insights about the ocean ecosystem and the marine life you may encounter—including dolphins, sea lions, and several species of whales.

Plus, every ticket supports Ocean Connectors, helping bring environmental education to San Diego youth.

Tours follow NOAA’s Marine Life Viewing Guidelines, ensuring a safe and respectful experience for the whales and our guests.

Whale sightings are guaranteed—if you don’t see one, your next trip is free.

Whale Watching Route

We follow the whales' migration path to bring you up close for the best sighting spots, which change every day.

Early in the season, whales swim closer to the coast, so the maximum distance is about 3-5 miles. On their return trip, northbound whales swim further out, up to 9-12 miles off the coast.
